In addition to erectile dysfunction and loss of libido, hypogonadism is associated with, among others, metabolic syndrome, diabetes, coronary artery disease, depression, osteoporosis with resultant increased morbidity and mortality.  Since publication about these concerns in prestigious peer reviewed medical journals and lay press, public awareness on this subject has increased and consequently the testosterone usage has gone up more than 200 fold!  However more than 90% of hypogonadal patients remain undiagnosed.   In addition there are specific guidelines for the treatment that assume medico legal importance.  

It is paramount for every physician to be aware of the diagnosis and management of this common condition and the newer and safer modalities of therapy available today along with the pros and cons of each such treatment option.

Dr. Amit Chakrabarty is a researcher and a National Speaker on this topic and has lectured on this topic at the American Urological Association annual meeting in Atlanta and the Annual AAPI convention last year.  He is currently serving as the President of aAPI (Alabama Association of Physicians of Indian origin).
